I had the same issue with a poker by peterson. I worked on it for a year, no luck. It just sits in the stand now. Never had another pipe before that or after that do the same thing. Very strange.

In my experience Peterson pipes can be a little "hard" at first and take a quite long time to soften, but when they do, they are among the best...

It is widely known fact that todays era Peterson pipes,especially those of medium price range may require unexpected long break in time
You are right! couple years ago I bought a second hand high grade Peterson pipe smoked maybe one or two times it was a natural finish spigot pipe and I could not believe how great tasting pipe it is just out of a box...Higher grade Petes are different level of briar and likely lot older wood....
