But that's what makes the lyrics so good! I saw him at Amoeba Records about 10 years ago, when I was living in Hollywood. He was buying a set of Smiths bootlegs, presumably to burn them in the dumpster behind the store. I didn't ask; never would have figured him for a Smiths fan...
