Just ordered the Spring, Summer and Autumn. Winter flake has Latakia, and I'm not a huge fan.
Excited to try these, as SG BBF has recently been my new Favorite smoke....

I'm interested in knowing if there is anything distinctive that these new flakes bring to the market;

or, is SG merely capitalizing on a tobacco style and presentation that seems to be growing in popularity?

After all, we've seen a surge of interest in all the square tinned Va flakes and variations, highlighted

by the recent introductions of Three Nuns, 2 Capstan blends, and ODF -- not to mention the forever back

ordered Fribourg & Treyer flakes.
:lol: Maybe SG heard rumors about Harris having some pocket change left over from his income tax return.

We got a batch of all 4 seasons into the shop today. It's a collaboration of blenders I do believe not simply SG. The Winter flake is the only one that interests me and I'll throw a couple tins into the cellar for 6 months and then give it a go.

I got a few tins of each blend to try; I just opened the English Summer Flake, the aroma ( hay, honey, brown sugar ) reminded me of Dunhill Flake ( which is one of my favs ), visuals on the flake ~ single stack golden Vs in color/almost as large as the tin, not a big deal since I had planned on a cube cut for them. The moisture was not too bad, but even after a cube cut I let air out for a good 12hrs. In the AM I packed a smaller Meer bowl with the cube cut. 1st few puffs ~ nice sweet Vs, no bite...consistent throughout entire bowl. This is another quality V from SG and I can see myself smoking many a tin of this blend throughout the HOT summer months
Some background/blends I enjoy to give you a base line here; Dunhill Flake, Solani Silver Flake, Wessex: Brigade Campaign, Wessex: Gold brick, Astley's: No. 44 Dark Virginia Flake, Capstan's Blue and Yellow Flake, SG FVF, Fribourg & Treyer: Cut Virginia Plug

English Summer Flake is an all Virginia flake that is predominantly red Va. It's nice and sweet -- sweet enough to make me think it is topped with something -- maybe just a brown sugar topping, nothing that interferes with the Va flavor.
I've only smoked 2 or 3 bowls. It reminds me of Wessex Brigade Campaign and F&T BlackJack. While I'm sure there are noticeable differences, I, for one, couldn't pass a blind taste test. Besides, it's been a while since I had the others.
I like it and would probably give it 3 or 4 stars in a rating, but with soooo many reds on the market I doubt I'll buy another tin of it. Besides, the presentation is kind of sloppy: not neatly manicured flakes, but a haphazard clump sitting in the tin -- some broken. Also, they are too long to place in a small Mason jar in the upright position, so I had to trim about a half inch from each flake -- no biggie since I'll either cube cut of rub them out anyway.
If you can smoke red Va, I say go for it -- one tin anyway. You won't feel ripped off.
