New Meerschaum-Send Back?

Recently got this pipe from meerschaum market. Overall it’s a decent pipe but for 155 dollars I noticed the draft hole is drilled off center and the tennon doesn’t sit right even when screwed in all the way. Neither of these have any long term consequences except for possible uneven coloring but I was hoping for a bit more for 155 bucks. Am I being a total Karen about this or should I try to send it back?

Even with basket briars, the stems fit properly, for that kind of money I wouldn't think twice about wanting my money back and casting my line again for a keeper.

Is it supposed to be a screw in tenon? It looks like you inadvertently unscrewed the mortise insert. But whether that has anything to do with the stem fit I don't know. Can you post a pic of the tenon?

It does. Looks to be more of a case of a bent tenon though. Nothing that a mild application of heat can't fix.

Another vote for sending it back. Maybe, hopefully, it will encourage the manufacturer or seller to pay more attention to what they are shipping.

Send it back. I consider Meerschaum Market reputable, and I would think that they would want to know if something was shipped in that condition for quality control.

Update: I contacted Meerschaum market and asked if I could send it back to swap it out for another pipe. Their policy is that they do not accept pipe returns for swaps or refunds after the pipe has been smoked which is understandable, I should have sent it in before smoking it. Burak did offer to have me send it back for free and he would re-drill the stem fitting but there was nothing he could do about the draft whole. It is a good pipe and smokes well but aesthetically, I am a little disappointed. I will most CERTAINLY be doing business with them in the future as they are absolutely reputable but like I said, I am a bit disappointed in myself and in the pipe.

Let him redrill the stem fitting. That way the part you can see is ok. Out of sight, out of mind.

I've dealt with Burak twice and each time he has offered excellent service. I would not hesitate to do business with him again. I'm sure he'll do everything possible to help you.

Wow, why did they even bother putting that one up for sale, instead of just slightly reworking the stem first?
Too late now, I guess, as you smoked it.
The way I see things, if Dr. Grabow pipes are well drilled and the stem/shank fitting is decent, anything more pricey must be as well.
If not, I just return it.

Agreed. Even the best vendors/retailers have a quality control issues at times, so I'd definitely call their attention to it so they can make it right, and you can get a good smoking meerschaum going forward.

I've bought several pipes from Meerschaum Market without any issues, and all of my pipes from there are fantastic smokers. Hopefully your next selection will be a great one.

Definitely send it back. I am sure that if he thinks that he cannot fix it, you will get a replacement back instead. Either way you end up with a good smoking pipe.
