Hello and welcome from Seattle, Washington USA.
I am guessing “Oshawa“ is neither French nor English but perhaps First Nations; any idea of the meaning or origin?
I figured you were right and that it was Native, but had to look it up. Apparently it means "the crossing place" in Ojibwa. Though I'm not sure what crosses here. We are on Lake Ontario but there are no big rivers or anything here that cross each other.

Times and places change, it could have been where 2 foot paths crossed.
Thank you for this, I find this stuff interesting.
Seattle was named after Chief Si'ahl of the local Duwamish and Suquamish tribes. I can’t explain how the settlers got “Seattle” from his name, but that’s the story.
