This pipe is in such great condition and yet something feels odd about it…why the stem without the C logo on a seemingly unsmoked, brand new pipe?

That one has been smoked. I see reaming marks in the chamber.

The oxidation on the bit and button suggests clenching.

The overall matte finish to the stem suggests an attempt to remove oxidation.

Hmmm Embers. Thanks. I’ll have to give it another look. I put my finger into the bowl to see if there was any kind of ash or tar residue and it was as clean a pipe bowl as I’ve ever seen. If someone restored this, it would be the best restoration I’ve ever seen and the stem would have to be a replacement. Other interesting data is that it was sitting with all of these other unsmoked British pipes. They seemed to have been kept in a case. All of their stems looked just as oxidized… especially so in some places on the stem, not all by the mouth piece area. I’m even more curious now.

Definitely been smoked, though maybe not so much. While I'm no expert on Comoy's, the COM stamp suggests that it's from the 1950's or later, while the Comoy's Old Bruyere arched style is reminiscent of the 1920's and 30's. I don't know if that arched style was carried on the Old Bruyere's into the 1950's and beyond. The early Comoy's didn't have a "C" stamp, but this isn't an early piece, based on the COM stamp. If it's late enough, the C would not have been inlaid, and those later C's do buff off. It's also possible that the stem is a replacement. The fit is a little off.
