Well, I about fell over myself getting registered on to BriarBid.com after seeing your tampers. Those are striking -- really well done.
I think I got the .50 cal -- the list view description was different than the item view.
To get a tamper that striking, that functional, and then with a bullet casing/gun theme, I think I just died and went to Heaven.
Thank you, ejames. What a nice surprise to see these, today.
I saw nothing re shipping, although I may have been too excited to notice. :) -- I went back and read another item of yours. :)

You're welcome, but those tampers are a real pleasure to look at.
I had a Comoy's, but it dropped from my hand one day and the lacquer finish chipped in an itt-bitty spot, but it shows up like a lightbulb in an alley. And, it did not have a rod, like yours.
The machining, matching the wood to the case size, the polishing, it all looks magnificent.

It is gratifying when someone can look at a piece and tell what went into making it. Some do not realize how much time and effort is involved.

ejames. Your tamper came in the mail, today -- as I was smoking a pipe. My youngest daughter gently broke it in with a few tamps.
It is really a handsome piece – much more so that in pictures. In the photo, I can’t draw out its high polish or the depth to the wood. It’s a very well done piece which I now want to hold onto.

If I ordered a tamper from Dunhill, my expectations still would have been less than what I see, holding it in my hand. The work is a little jaw-dropping.

It's really very simple, you do stunning work. Add on the fact that you're one of the true good guys on this forum and Tom's note of praise and appreciation just ratchets you up a couple of notches higher.
Well done, Sir.

Thank you, rothnh. It feels like a new long-term companion.
Sorry, if I had a brain in my head I would have put the tamper on the front in the last night’s photo. :)
My daughter was clamoring for my attention, while I tried to finish posting last night. I added light and close up, here, but there is still a luxurious richness the camera has not captured. I just showed the little woman who was “wowed” by it, and she’s usually a shrug-shoulder type with these things.

Fnord,thanKs!
A word or two on the wood Toms tamper is made of. A friend in California sent it to me. It is Honey Locust. This stuff is HARD !! As hard ,if not harder than briar. Like briar it will shine up nicely with out wax or varnish etc.

My buddy has sent more of it,some about 3" in diameter. I plan to make a pipe from it as well as more tampers.I've made one from the Honey Locust,a simple "Cherry Wood" shape with a Locust shank ( it's made kinda like MM cobs) and a rubber stem. Sent it to a friend in Florida. Says it gives the smoke a "buttery" taste.I'm anxious to see for myself how the Locust smokes. Seems like Mark Stewart has made some Locust pipes.
