Arrived today, Moretti "Collection" bamboo freehand with virgin finish. Beautiful grain and perfect engineering. Marco is truly a master craftsman.

Thank you for all the great comments.
As for expense it is interesting since at the same time I was looking at buying this one, the Danish Pipe Shop had this Tom Eltang for sale which is nearly the same (except it is cross grain). The Tom Eltang one was about $1,400 from memory while the Moretti was $300. So I think the Moretti was not expensive in the big scheme of things, is actually very good value for money in my opinion.

Yes! That is a fantastic virgin stain pipe my friend. She will be a wonderful companion. Is this your first virgin stain pipe?

As nice as it looks, I'm still on the fence regarding bamboo stems. Does the bamboo improve the quality of the smoke or is it just a question of aesthetics?

For me it is probably aesthetics and also I did not have one in my herd until now :)
I doubt that the bamboo would improve the smoke but doubt it would make it worse either.

To me bamboo makes some pipes look worse, some a ton better. One person's art is another's compost pile, of course. I don't have any w/ bamboo, but just because I haven't found any in the shapes I'm partial to. Just one more reason to stay alive so I can complete the quest!
