Need Help from COMOY’S Collectors

I’m about to buy COMOY’S grand slam with UK pat 405743. But the stem is 3part C and no metal filter. I don’t know much about all details but should all grand slams have to have that and when 3part C replaced white mark/ white lane?

Not all Grand Slams have the metal. I have two patent GS pipes. One has the metal and the other does not.

Wait, that's not exactly right. All Grand Slams had a screw in metal filter, with a leather washer. I misread the post thinking you were describing the reinforcing ring on some high-grade Comoy's (Blue Ribands) I suspect most smokers unscrewed the filter assembly and discarded it.

So, we shouldn't change the name of the forum, sorry Jim!

More properly speaking every Grand Slam had the patented filter when new, that is after all the defining feature of the pipe, but many are missing it decades later.
