I have to get a pinata from Texas to the east coast.

It doesn't weigh anything but it's taking a 3 foot cubed box.

Shipping a box like that through conventional means is an arm and a leg.

I'd like to find a way to spend only an arm. Any help appreciated.

Thanks.

From the USPS website postage calculator:

I'd take it to a UPS store and let them pack it and ship it.

I tried the USPS postage calculator again with a package weight of 5 pounds...still $166.60.

I changed the dimensions of the package to 36" x 36" x 36" and it states:
According to the dimensions entered, your package is too large to be mailed.

Good luck Jay.

I don't know how much I would trust this. I use USPS for everything from mailing bikes to anvils to large metalworking equipment, and I always go inside and talk to the Postmaster. They usually know how to get the lowest rate, and I have never paid anything like $166 to mail something. They genuinely want you to get the lowest rate, because the reason stuff is priced at higher rates is the "headache factor" for them.

Yeah, I thought it seemed a bit high.

I have used the USPS postage calculator in the past and it was accurate, those were smaller packages, not huge boxes.

After several days of unsatisfactory research, I decided it was cheaper and more rewarding to commission an artist local to my sister to make and deliver a pinata.

Now, I have a large, pink elephant pinata in my garage.

I think I'll fill it with plastic liquor miniatures and take it to a bike rally end of May...
