So, I've recently started digging into the pipe hobby and decided to make one my own. This one here is not made from briar, since I can't find any in my place, so I used "Palisandro Morado" or Paraguayan Rosewood. Since I didn't have any powertool equipment apart from a drill, I made everything by hand. Now I'm working on getting a 10mm tenon stem that fits nicely, and then I'll have to sand the shank to the level of the stem to look good. But yeah, I will update you guys when this is finished and share a photo with you all. All in all, I think that the first attempt came out really really good, and I want to hear your opinions on rosewood also since I don't have a lot of knowledge about it. Have a good day and cheers to you all.

It will make a nice shelf piece. Don't smoke it. Rosewood is toxic.

You beat me to it. Many of the tropical hardwoods are toxic to some degree.

You have to be careful woodworking with them. If you’re sensitive or allergic breathing the dust can be seriously bad news. Some even cause an allergic reaction over time from simple contact.

Nice work so far, though.

I was saddened to learn that rosewood is toxic, when you put so much good work into making that pipe. I am in a similar position to you in respect of wanting to make a pipe with no power tools other than a drill. I have a selection of fruitwoods I can use, from trees that need to be cut - blackthorn, apple, pear and quince - are any of those available to you where you are?

I'm planning on getting some olive wood and making another one! I really have a lot of fun during the process, and man, what can I say, the juice is definitely worth the squeeze. Having your own made pipe makes for a good conversation starter, and you will have some things to talk about with your mates. Give it a shot MisterBadger, you won't regret it. Just make sure not to use toxic wood like the fool that is replying to you haha, cheers
