Is the tenon broken off inside the shank? Send it to a reputable pipe repair shop.

Take a small wood screw and screw it into the broken tenon and then gently pull it out with a pair of pliers.

Great suggestion from ejames, the few times I've broken off a stem I've just been looking down the road to getting a new stem made. As long as I would be sending it off to get a new stem turned I decided not to risk damaging the shank by removing the broken tenon myself.

I just did what ejames said with a pipe of mine that had broken a while ago and it popped right out. No idea why I hadnt thought of that! Now is there any way to glue the tenon back on the stem?
