I've been interested in putting together and completing a pipe set that reflects the type of pipes most Americans in the last 100 years might have come into contact with in their parent's or grandparent's homes. As of today, I have finally completed a tribute set to this part of our American pipe history. So with that out fo the way, I am happy to present to you my own tribute to American Pipes, although the photos really don't do the pipes justice.
Beginning with the pipe in the front and moving left to right, the pipes are as follows:
Dr. Grabow Supreme, J456A - Spade on the top, screw in saddle stem with a scoop, possibly a Linkman's from 1950;
Kaywoodie Silhouette, metal band, freestyle rim top, screw in with stinger clipped. Possibly late 40s;
Medico Sterling Overlay - an anniversary gift from my mother to my father, 6 mm filter;
Willard marked Imported Briar, a Dublin with a screw in stem with a stinger;
Willard, marked Imported Briar, full bend with a screw in saddle stem with a stinger. This one is one of my father's oldest pipes and took a lot of work to clean up;
Kaywoodie Standard, 93B Billiard with a screw in saddle stem with a stinger;
Yello Bole marked 2829, KBB in Clover, Honey Cured Briar, with push in stem with a scoop, possibly from the mid 1930s.
Other Photos, top view, out of order are as follows,
We see so many seven day collections, so many truly wonderful pipes. My goal with this seven day collection was to capture a bit of the "working man's" everyday pipes; the type your parents or grandparents might have had setting on a shelf or next to their smoking chair. Most of these pipes have seen some wear and use, but isn't that what should be the case.
So there it is. I hope you will feel encouraged to share some of your pipes that fit this genre. I started a post about this type of pipe collecting a few weeks ago. There has been a lot of interested lately on this forum about collecting the type of pipes found at the hardware or general drug store.
So what do you say?
