I have my first episosde of what I thjnk is ghosting. I smoked Mr B's Muskoka Mix (very tasty aro by the way) in an ozark wooden cob and all I can smell is the Muskoka Mix, I'm assuming tjis is ghosting as its been a week since I smoked the pipe and usually the bowls smell like an ashtray, this smells sweet and fragrant. Should I just dedicate it or can I fix it? I only have a sample of the blend and have only smoked it once so its not likely to make it into my regular rotation.

Thanks Mike, I wouldnt call myself much of a purist either. Actually the smell in the pipe is really nice, so based on the fact its a wooden cob and that I'll be smoking another aro, what the hell!

I had ghosted one of my pipes that is normally dedicated to VA blends with the Peterson Holiday Edition 2012. For the next 10 smokes or so every tobacco tasted like caramel apples. Thankfully I was able to "smoke it out" with a good Burley which left nothing but pure tobacco "ghost" instead.

Keep smoking something neutral in it and the ghost will gradually disappear...
Layering aromatics is bound to have a different effect but if you are happy, I'm happy.
I personally dedicate all of my pipes to a respective style.
That is not everybody's preference but I can't enjoy pipe smoking without it. I don't like muddled flavours.

brdavidson:
To me, this isn't a case of "ghosting" at all. IMO, ghosting is when you've smoked a blend that you continue to taste in the pipe even after 20 bowls of something else. It's the taste that refuses to leave. I've never heard of an American-style aromatic that could do that.
On the other hand, I would expect it in a so-called Lakeland blend -- that is, an English-made blend that includes tonquin. Those are the blends that self-dedicate pipes; like it or not, you're stuck with those flavors/aromas unless you do some very thorough cleaning (as rothnh suggested).

I seem to have selectively read the original post.
I did not notice that you had only smoked one bowl in that pipe.
Think of it as a sign of things to come rather than actual ghosting.
If you keep smoking pouches of Muskoka Mix (or another aromatic) in that pipe then that will be the long term lingering flavour/aroma in that pipe. One bowl is not likely to cause permanent damage but it will probably linger for quite a few bowls of something else...
Now you see why a lot of people recommend inexpensive MM pipes for sampling or aromatics. It is not fun to have your briar tainted by a ghost of a tobacco that you no longer enjoy (or in the case of estates, one that you never liked in the first place)...
Anyway, I repeat my advice to smoke some plain jane burleys or Virginias in there until the aro presence is exorcised.
Alternatively, keep that Ozark as your general purpose aromatic pipe (or some subset of aromatics if that is too broad) and you may find there is no need to rid your pipe of that scent.
