Apologies I don’t have the before pics, but I bought an old, abused Medico pipe on eBay because I need something to do... for a whole £1.99!! I know... splashing out a bit here. puffy

Came to me with chips and gouges and all sorts in the finish. The cake had spilled out over the top onto the rim of the chamber and was a good 3mm thick inside.

I didn’t fancy a let’s call it ‘semi-rusticated’ finish so stripped it right back yesterday, reamed and cleaned it and polished up to 400 grit wet and dry.

Applied some black fiebings pro oil dye, sanded back again, and again back up to 3000 grit.

Thinned the dye with alcohol and painted on a few coats of translucent grey. This is my wet rainy day pipe now.

Now just to fix the stem (which doesn’t fit as it stands...)

The extremely shabby condition hints that the pipe is a really good smoker, and you have dug it out of its trashed status, so there could be some excellent smoking ahead. It just couldn't be caked and chipped to that degree if someone wasn't enjoying it very much. Looking good.

Fingers crossed you’re right there ?? it’s sitting for a week now whilst I’m patiently working on the stem.. needs sanding right back and polishing again (also pitted and dented beyond belief!).

I love the faint remnants of the semi rustication.
