Some of you showed interest in my art so I thought I'd post some here once in a while. This first one is a piece I created for ROOM 101 Cigars. Initially it started as a clean illustration but they shifted gears and wanted a more hand drawn feel. So I ended up re drawing the Samurai with more pencil detail.

Oh thats awesome! The Mandalas are really nice! All is great but I really like the colorful Mandalas

Thanks! They are my favorites too. The acrylic stuff is just from Bob Ross dinner parties (we’re too cheap to buy oil ?)

I do all the mandalas freehand too (except the first inner circle) so trying to maintain the symmetry is very meditative

Yeah oil paint is expensive and takes forever to dry.

Damn, freehand? I don't have the patience for that. lol

Haha it does take that. That top one is 24x30. The black and white outline took 6 hours, the color took 10.

A lifetime ago I was an architect and graphic artist. I haven't drawn or painted anything in decades. My kids are doing some insane CG art and my 6 year old son is doing 3D animated movie company logos.

I was an architecture major my first two years of college. Ray Kappe designs are burned into my memory.

Oil sucks, anyways. The wife and I started trying to paint some after @alaskanpiper told us about Bob Ross dinner parties. I think if we can get a handle on how thick the oil is supposed to be to manipulate it where you can add a color on top of another color without them blending, we might improve a bit...

The stuff on here is incredible. You guys are really gifted.

Best I’ve been able to do, so far. That mountain is where I had a ton of trouble trying to get the oil to lay on top of each other vs. blend. Well, there and those white stripes in the water. Yes, it’s supposed to be water!

Thank you. Google says they did. Had to check that myself. Hahaha! Japan has had tobacco since the 1500's. Age of the Samurai is 1185-1868. So no tobacco for early Samurai
