It would help to know how new you are to pipe smoking ?
What budget do you have ?
Is/are there any pipe shapes that really appeal to you ?
And how likely are you going to keep smoking a pipe ?

If you are not sure if you are going to like it and just dipping your toes in the water, then I'd get a corn cob which is cheaper and easier to smoke than a briar - smokes drier, less likely to gurgle, less break-in issues.

If you're further along the road, then a mid-priced briar.
Best to go with a straight shape eg a billiard, Apple, Dublin, Lovat or bulldog.
Again less issues with gurgles /moisture build-up than bents.
And if there is, it's easy to use a pipe cleaner or two.

There are numerous threads with suggestions for starter and inexpensive pipes.
So I won't put my two bob in (Aussie speak for not muddying the water).

Happy hunting

Well,if you are located in England ,i'd suggest taking a look at BakemarBriars.UK and J Barber tobacconists' websites
These two offer very well made pipes at more than reasonable prices ( Barber seconds and Blakemar entry line pipes
I second looking at Blakemar Pipes.
I have. Blakemar bulldog and I'm very happy with it.

I will recommend looking at one of our sponsors, The Danish Pipe Shop.
They have a huge selection of new and estate pipes at a wide spread of prices.
They have a lot of affordable new pipes.
And do take a look at their estate pipes.
Unlike buying estate pipes on EBay (which is a crap-shoot), the estate pipes from The Danish Pipe Shop are rated and arrive in well-cleaned condition.

I like Stanwell pipes (estates - generally used, but occasionally you can find unused ones) from their Danish era.
Good quality factory pipes at reasonable prices.
Stanwells are now made in Italy

Shipping is very fast

Danish Pipe Shop is good, ordered from them once and prompt service to here in the US.

An email blast says a bunch of Molina pipes dropped on Smoking Pipes EU. Those appear to be very reasonably priced - I have no experience with them.

Corncobs are a great start. Cheap, smokes great, lotta shape and size options, and low maintenance. They're also not as bad at ghosting. I would suggest buying a better quality one though. One that has a nicer bowl as apposed to the ones that look like fresh corn. Maybe stay over the 10 dollar range. Avoid the impulse to buy a beautiful 20 dollar Chinese pipe. The walls are thin, and they burn hot with lots of relights.

I second the corn cob if I have to make a choice. But honestly pick something you are comfortable paying for and just ask how happy people are with that brand or style.... Basically pick something you like and can afford comfortably, then just double check that the company is not a pile of crap first.
