I am looking into getting a Morta pipe and was wondering about the weight.
How do Morta pipes compare in weight to briar pipes? Heavier or lighter for the same size? Or are they about the same?

I only have 1 morta, but it weighs practically nothing. I treat it like a meerschaum; meaning that I wipe the interior of the bowl with a paper towel when it cools down.

This was made by Jason Zeiner on Bethlehem, Pa.

It's definitely lighter...and definitely harder than briar...32 grams on this one

I wonder if it holds up well to carving is the reason.

It's harder, but more brittle than briar- I never go as thin as I would with briar...If you think about it, it's oak with minerals absorbed, but it's still has a lot of the characteristics of oak...

Thanks guys, I was thinking they would be lighter, and am glad that is true. I really like light pipes and Zack that billiard is a beauty. Now I just need to find out what I want, and who I want to make it.
