I can buy bongs all day long. There's no reason to think they'll take our pipes away. That's insanity.
Damn straight. I get so annoyed pushing past the bongs and grateful dead posters that I cannot go to my local B&M (not that I'm very interested in their basket pipes and ancient Lane in jars)

If this post does not format as hoped, it is because I am not yet familiar with the tools of this rather crude medium.
Folks, I've been smoking since about 1973--- I smoke a few years, I stop a few years. For years I went to cigars. Like other hobbies, I do it in moderation, but I really, really enjoy it! But I do it for pleasure, not out of habit or addiction. Last year, someone found my name on an old mailing list and started sending me magazines; after months, I decided to take it back up. I have never belonged to a smoking forum before and had I not joined here recently, I would have no idea what is going on. That said:
[Their regulatory control extends to pipes, so who knows what they'll do.]
Fortunately for me, I have all the pipes and more that I will ever need or want. I am not a collector for collecting sake.
[Last update I saw, it covered pipes, pipe racks, pouches, tobacco, but not cleaners and lighters.]
One can make a pipe rack. I will be making a real nice one for myself.
[As much of a hassle as it is, this FDA interference, I am not concerned. I have said it before, the FDA can be bought. They are in this for money, not health reasons.]
You should be VERY concerned. This shit is downright un-American and oppressive. Not wanting to offend anyone, but the FDA is but a reflection of the administration that runs it. We get what we vote for. Government agencies are at their worst about control for the sake of agendas. People will have a choice this fall to change administrations, and vote for yet another corrupt insider in it for deep personal gain bought and paid for, or for that very rare outsider with enough money to finally buck the system, the slanted media and the Washington insiders, owing nothing to no one and at deep personal expense, someone from the private sector as originally intended rather than a career politician who is fed up like we are with seeing the country run this way. That is all I will say, now the rest is up to the citizens to for once make intelligent choices. The choice is theirs. Vote the one way and you will almost certainly see all this over-regulation bullshit collapse very quickly.
[I've been signing petitions and notifying Senators/Representatives. That's all us consumers can really do.]
That and get off yer ass and VOTE SMARTLY. Pipes will continue and pipe tobacco will continue. At worst, selection, availability and cost will be greatly affected. I will have plenty of tobacco to last me a long time and I will grow my own tobacco in my backyard if I have to. As prohibition taught us, where there is a will, a need, a market, there is a way, but hopefully, all this shit will be stopped soon by getting someone finally in office who will protect free markets, rather than crush them.
Regards,
