Smoking a pipe for my Uncle Joe .
I well remember, as a little tike, visiting Grandma's house and opening Uncle Joe's old smoker cabinet and enjoying the scent of his pipes.
Joe was captain of his football team at Duke University when, after Pearl Harbor, he joined Officer Candidates School.
His first Lieutenant was KIA and Joe assumed command of the platoon.
It was hand-to-hand combat in the tunnels of Iwo Jima.

RIP Pap and those who lay beside him. We're waiting a date for my mothers interment, they say 18-24 months.

What is sobering is that when we buried him in 2019, that section of ANC was largely empty.
