Check this one from my pile. XXXl meer estimate age 100 plus years old. 3 in. tall , 4 long shank 2. Made in Dresden. Ment to be smoked in case. Must have taken mucho years to color.

The case was removed before smoking. This is an Austrian/German meerschaum and the case was to protect the bowl. The stem was I believe cherry wood with a bone mouth piece that was carried around separately. They are very collectable and desirable. Do you have the stem?
It looks like the pipe was smoked in the case because it has top and side openings. Has silver inlayed band with loop for fancy thread attachment to original cherry long stem.

Looks to be on the small side. Were it the only pipe of the original owner, coloring like that could be done in less than a year.

Agreed. Once at the shop, I bought a meer and all of us smoked it when ever we worked. Inside of two months with nearly 11 hours a day of smoking, it was colored nearly that much, darker in some area's, lighter in others.
