I found this pipe in an antique store this past weekend while out with, Cyndi. It's a gorgeous piece, just doesn't have a stem. Looking at it, it seems like it had some kind of cap, but I'm not sure what would be the best to repair it. Any thoughts?
Fred, I'd seen the links you posted on the other discussion, but not sure which one would work best.
In the first pic, you can see that the hole is a little off center and it's rather small for the shank.

In this pic, you can see how the end of the shank is darkened, making it look like there was once a type of metal ring or something there.

Thanks for the help guys!

You might want to check with Dave at Walker Briar Works. I've found him to do very nice work at fair prices. The lucite replacement stem he made me was perfect.

The shank appears to have striped out threads that once served to anchor a bit-to-shank connector, which likely was a bone screw, judging from the apparent age of this Block. Old Meerschaum Block is fragile and repairs are best left to a professional. This will involve a new connector, a new bit, possible opening of the Pipe's draft, and possible banding. From the photos you've provided, there doesn't seem to be any indication that the Pipe had a cap. Floyd Norwood has been my go-to-guy for Meerschaum repairs for years.
