Hi,

Would you recommend a meerschaum pipe for a beginner smoker?

Sure! Plenty of info in some good threads on here - now, what to get and how much to spend? I am probably wrong ….. but I think there are lots of inexpensive briars that would do you nicely but Id recommend spending a little more on a first Meer to get good drilling and a good stem, or at least increase the odds quite a bit, assuming you are buying new. Again, IMO.

Why I am intrigued for meerschaum:

1) you don’t have to burn it in, therefore if you want to “try” pipe smoking, you don’t have to wait for the “right smoke” (that is what my logic says)

2) meerschaum works as a good filter itself; it is light; heat absorber - practical things

3) really like the looks

4) no cake, therefore tabacco in its pure form, no residue of older smokes

I have checked all the types of pipes and meerschaum seems to me as a great example of “first” pipe.

Please, tell me your thoughts.

I am a cigar smoker. I really like the taste of a tabacco.

Guys, help me here to try the pipe smoking for the first time with … good preperation:)

P.S.: Does have a long or short stem has any effect on the smoke itself? I mean, does the long stem make a colder smoke?

You do have to break a new meer in the first few bowls will taste funky like a sour milk so smoke something strong in it or power through. This isn't an issue with estate meers.

Not sure what you mean about "heat absorber" it will heat up the bowl gets warm.

Meer cakes like any other pipe, you can wipe the bowl out with a damp paper towel after each use to keep it from caking, but it does and will cake.
