Been reading about meers coloring bowls and was wondering why you would use one. seen a few videos on faster coloring and all that and wondering why. I'm relatively new to pipe smoking and Meerschaums but one of the pleasures of smoking a meers to me anyway is watching it take on the coloring of being smoked. any thoughts on this subject?

From my limited experience coloring bowls are clunky and not much fun to smoke from but for whatever reason very effective in coloring a pipe evenly.

Some people want a very even coloring that the bowls apparently provide. It's just an aesthetic preference as far as I can tell.

I'm under the impression, that it's reaalllyyyy only the smoke that makes the pipe color. Hence why the shanks color before the bowls. So if you put a second "bowl" ontop of the pipe bowl, the bowl that's a part of the pipe will color more evenly, like a Shank would normally.
