Here's a great little Meer that I grabbed the other day. The case says made in Austria and the "badge" on the inside of the case says "Genuine Meershaum & Amber" - Looks like "Red Amber" if its Amber at all. The pipe is 4 3/4 inches long and 23 grams in weight.

I do know amber can vary in color but I've never seen any that dark, but I am no expert. I do know many old meers lost or broke their original amber stems. I have one estimated at 120+ yrs old but the stem was replaced with a yellow acrylic stem. Unless you can verify the stem is indeed amber, I'd assume the stem was replaced with a more modern material. That said, it is still a nice looking meer. Have fun smoking it! :puffy:

Puffdoggie, I have many pipes with "real" amber, I don't even think it's really amber. I can say this....the stem is a fantastic replacement.

I would agree, the stem looks acrylic to me. I've had a few with the amber stems (cracked or broken). They have a more luminescent quality to them than an acrylic.
Still a fine meer either way. Enjoy the smoke!

Nice Snag. I'd agree that if the billiard did indeed originally have an amber stem, it has been replace with any acrylic. Thanks for posting it.
