Mac Baren Symphony and Mac Baren Mixture Modern are both made with Burley, Cavendish and Virginia , Carter Hall lacks Cavendish. Now I have not smoked any of the Mac Barens, I do smoke a lot of Captain Black witch is also made with Burley, Cavendish and Virginia and I am fond of and liken Carter Hall to CB

I'm a regular Symphony smoker, even have a pipe dedicated to it, and think it tastes nothing like Carter Hall. Also love CH BTW.

I remember JimInks mentioning in some review a superior alternative to Carter Hall, or was it Pipestud?

Shame I forgot.
Some say 4 noggins bald headed teacher is similar, anyway.

In the MacBaren line, Symphony would be the closest to CH. However, like Chasing said... it's really nothing like it, lol.
You may want to check out P&C Chatham Manor. Basically a CH match, but blended by Russ and made with far superior tobacco. I have heard many say that it's phenomenal and better than CH.

Nothing in the MacBaren line up resembles the taste of Carter Hall. I do recommend, for their own merits, Symphony and Golden Extra. Also, H&H Chatham Manor.

I can't think of any Mac Barens blends that approximate Carter Hall. I like Va/Bur/Cav blends a lot. I've done home mixes from time to time, but my current favorite professional version is PC Russ O.'s Log Cabin. PC's Chestnut is also a fine smoke, but has about five different tobaccos, in a non-aromatic blend sold in a tub, nice.

Another lively aromatic all-day blend is Iwan Ries Triple Star Blue, newly available in a tin, or is it a tub. It's distinctly tobacco forward but gives off a pleasant room note.

Carter Hall is my all day every day smoke. I've tried many blends trying to simulate Carter Hall. Yet nothing comes close. I've been tempted to try some of the Burley/Virginia flakes from Cornell and Diehl though in hopes it would be similar, but never bit the bullet. There's just nothing as good as Carter Hall. :D
