Hello, all!
It has been a while since I last posted. Over the past month, I had final exams, helped my wife through her first law finals, traveled down to Texas to see family for the holidays, and then have been visiting family around my home state. I received a Dremel for Christmas from my wife, and finally having found some down time, I decided to buy a pre-drilled block of briar and give it a go! I used a Dremel that uses AA batteries (and after eating up about 30 sets of 4, I invested in rechargeable ones,) wood files, and a coping saw. I know it isn't the best pipe ever, but I'm happy with it.
I hope the Holiday Season has found everyone well and happy. New Years Resolution: get on the forums more!
Here are some pics of my first pipe.

That is incredible for a first pipe and the tools you used! I am truly impressed and hope my first effort turns out half as nice. Does it smoke as nice as it looks?

crusader, thanks for your kind comments. Yours will turn out wonderfully, I'm sure! I just ordered it off of Amazon. After shipping, I'll let you know I payed about $31.00 for it.
phil67, Thank you for sharing the forums! I hope I didn't post this in the wrong place. Please forgive me if I did. I look forward to reading those other forums and seeing what others have come up with.

Hell no. There's no rule or stipulation that posting a handcrafted pipe must be on one of the forum links I gave. I just thought you might be interested in it. By the way, that is the very same kit I have. When I get a few other essentials I'll be working on more pipes, but not the same kit. It's somewhat of a good starter kit but I found it to be rather small and not enough to work with. But, it's turning out pretty decent. Just have to stain and polish it yet.

I do appreciate you sharing those forums! I have enjoyed looking at what others have done. I liked the kit as a starter, but then again I have nothing to compare it to. Haha. I bet your pipe looks amazing!

That is a great job. It is a neat trick to get a bowl round without using a lathe. Looks like a great smoker to last a life time.

For a first pipe, Wow! Very well done. I like your partial smooth/rusticated pattern. Much like @crusader, I'm interested, how does it smoke? It must be a satisfying feeling to enjoy a bowl out of a pipe that you have carved yourself.

I haven't had the opportunity to smoke it yet. I live in Michigan and it is too cold outside (5 degrees, I think?) to smoke, and I am not allowed to smoke in our house  This afternoon I'll be heading to a local smoke shop with a lounge to try it out! I'll let you know how it goes.

That's what I'm talkin about! NICE job! Too bad you haven't got easy access to its enjoyment. I'll have a bowl in your honor right now!

I cannot believe you did all that with a battery powered Dremel! Good show. As for the law finals, hope she did well enough to assure a job at the other end.
