I finally got up the courage to try Deer Tongue in a blend. I started with C&D Crooner because I was told it's a fairly stout blend, but only contains a smidgen of Deer Tongue, so I thought it would be a nice toe dip into the leaf. I have to say, I love the stuff! I'm going to try Gentlemen Caller next, because it's supposed to have more Deer Tongue in it. Any other fans?

A slight mint note as well.
Similar to Vanilla but definitely it’s own thing and a classic flavor in American blends.
Every piper should try some if given the chance to see which side of the binary divide they’re on.

I think I tried it in Carter Hall ... not bad, but can't say I am crazy over it.

The "odd herb" doesn't draw me in, but I will probably try it unwittingly at some point. Bing Crosby was said to be a deer tongue blend smoker. The more tobacco and less of everything else, the better, for me.

Google is my friend: FDA has banned it’s use in food. Can cause liver damage, internal bleeding. Use in cigarettes halted in 1970’s.

So...if they are using actual deertongue, then they probably shouldn’t be.
