so I made a mistake. I purchased this beautiful Moonshine Bent Egg on the bay for 60 bucks. The pipe looks great, the problem is, it is the epitome of a Va blend pipe and I don’t smoke Virginias. It’s not that I don’t like Virginias, it’s just that I prefer Balkans and English blends so much that I tend to go for those whenever I am in the mood for a smoke. My question is, can I get away with smoking English blends out of this pipe? Or is that just stupid? The pipe chamber is 1.93 deep and .80 wide. It fits 2/3rds of my pinkie finger and hugs it rather tight, making it a very deep and narrow bowl.9C789CD0-EA1C-40AE-81D9-F13699673865.jpeg

Against the rules, absolutely. The pipe smoking monitor will be over any minute to write you a ticket. Or, I'd try any blend in it. It might favor some over others, but pipes always surprise me by defying presumptions. For some English and Balkan blends, it might be the best pipe.

I have a coupled of the Deviled Eggs, the straight version of that pipe. I find the chambers suitable for any blend. However, I do believe English/Balkan blends are better suited, flavor wise, to wider chambers. My favorite pipes for those blends tend to be my Nordings and my Savinelli 320s.

It's all a matter of preference, but I find the "wider bowl for English" rule works best for
a) chunky cuts
B) busy blends with lots of components like many Scottish blends, American Englishes like Walnut, Revelation match, or Epiphany, and lat blends with added perique, dfk, cigar leaf, etc.

If it's a light English or even a heavy lat/va-only blend, narrow is no problem. And .8 is kind of middle of the road so it shouldn't be a problem anyway.
Beautiful piece!

Beautiful pipe. I concur with the posse here, but also add that a .8" bowl diameter is actually within an average range for most pipes. Combined with that depth, the pipe has a generous bowl that would be great for VAs certainly, assuming the walls are thick enough, but I bet it works well for any type of blend. One of my favorite pipes for Latakia blends is about 1.7" x .75". So just a bit smaller in scale, but similar proportions.

That's a great looking pipe! Nice knife too. Good deal for $60 for sure. I actually tend to prefer taller narrow chambers to get the most flavour from all blend types, especially Englishes. As others have mentioned, that pipe isn't all that narrow anyways.

Nice pipe and smoke whatever you like in it. The only ‘rule’ I follow is that I have dedicated pipes for Lakeland and Christmas/holiday blends. Otherwise decision on pipe is usually simply which one (of my 30 or so) do I fancy smoking at the time.

No, if it's been said once, it's been said a thousand times - don't cross the streams.
Peter: Why?
Egon: It would be bad.
Peter: I’m fuzzy on the whole good/bad thing. What do you mean “bad”?
Egon: Try to imagine all life as you know it stopping instantaneously and every molecule in your body exploding at the speed of light.
Raymond: Total protonic reversal.
Peter: That’s bad. Okay. Alright, important safety tip, thanks Egon.

So no. Just no.

Buy you're forgetting. They did do it, saved the world by doing it, and had one hell of a marshmallow roast in the process.

Oh, and that's a big Twinkie.
