I've been pretty selective, so I only have three sandblast pipes, but I really like the finish.
I think the texture that maintains a relationship with the grain is a particularly elegant
approach. I still savor my rusticated pipes, and of course the fine smooth tradition, but
sandblast seems like an especially refined finish when it's done well and with a good
visual sensibility. It may not be the $1K flame grain smooth finish, but it has a magic all
its own, that tactile dimension. I have a sandblast poker, a billiard, and a diplomat, each
carried off with a craftsman's touch.
