My experience is a "Dutch Cavendish" is not like what is considered an "aromatic" here in America. Most American Style aromatics are heavily cased with fruit sauces and or vanilla. They never dry to a proper smokeable form. The scents are heavy, the smoke is dense and everybody around you is happy because you smell like a bakery. But the smoker is left with little to no tobacco enjoyment and usually a ghosted pipe full of half burnt dottle and condensed steam. Here is where Dutch Cavendish comes in for me. I'm going back and forth between two blends that satisfy me on the tobacco end and keep the smoke haters at bay - Troost Special Cavendish and Skandinavik Full Aroma. The other was Amphora but it has since vacated our USA shores. These are golden cavendish blends with a bit of burley thrown in for ignition and a gentle cocoa and blossom scent mixed with sweet hay. Pressed into cakes, steamed/aged and then torn apart into fine strands - I could smoke this style all day. Light cocoa essence, a bit of spice in the nose smoke. No sauce, no mystery goop. The feeling I actually smoked something. All good. If these are Aros, then I'm an Aro smoker.

@kumotaki : vous êtes suisse? Dans ce cas, connaissez - vous Synjeco, une civette localisée à Brissago?

Je ne connais pas les tabacs maison de Besson; alors, je ne saurais vous conseiller.

However, I can recommend Rattray's Bagpiper's Dream, for having tried it. It's a great cognac flavoured aromatic, of vey high quality.

@pylorns I didn't smoke last year's St. Pats, so can't make a comparison. It may be just my dislike of that cubed cut that held me back. :(
I have to say the cube cut threw me for a loop at first. Took a number of bowls to get the packing down and get used to it taking a while to take a light.
I will say once it took the flame it pretty much smoked itself though.

Minnesota,
It sounds like your tastes are similar to mine. What i read here is... You need a way to deal with the room note so you can explore tobaccos you would probably really enjoy.
I was also really concerned about smell, so What I have set up are 2 10inch fans that exhaust out a small window in a room that is 12 feet by 12 feet (whats that in metric, 3.5 meters). Honestly, you can't smell anything the next day. I also have a hepa filter, but i don't run it much.
I have a beard, too, and although my wife doesn't mind the smoke smell cigars and pipes, she hates the smell it leaves in my beard. I got some cheap beard oil off Amazon. It seems to do the trick.
I think you would be happier finding a way to deal with the smoke first, then smoking all kinds of blends.

@Dude just get some grapeseed oil, I use it as a pre-shave oil, a 750ml bottle cost me around 5$

So I guess that's what I'm talking about. Amphora is more closely related to what I like than 99% of the US aromatics. I have recently discovered WO Larsen Black Diamond. That's sweeter, but definitely on the good side. I also have been recommended MacBaren Plumcake. Just tried it and it's a match.

Thank you for doing the math but I can deal with feet. As long as they're not smelly. See, I really care about the room note. More seriously, I'm all okay with a strong-smelling latakia, but I seem to share that taste with loborx up there for "blends that satisfy me on the tobacco end and keep the smoke haters at bay". Let's call that dutch blends then.

Yes and oui. Merci pour le conseil du Rattray. I'll keep that in mind.

You would probably like Peterson's Sweet Killarny. Light medium body with Yellow Virginia taste forward, and a sweet caramel taste in the background. The room note is caramel. Not bad for an aromatic.
Pipesandcigars.com has a new line out now called Brigadier Black. There are 6 aromatics in the series. I have not smoked any of them (I am not much on aromatics), but all of them have been getting rave reviews. They might be worth a try.

Another aro of note is pipesandcigars Vermont Meat Candy. It tastes and smells like fresh pancakes, bacon, and maple syrup...no kidding. I keep some around for when I get in the mood for an aro, once in a while.
