Keep a note pad and pencil handy, in case you need to say something urgent. There's a black bear in the yard. Someone stole the car. That sort of thing. Get feeling better, and more vocal, soon. If you do more urgent venting here, we'll know why.

I know the feeling. Wife is deaf so it does me no good to talk. A.S.L.. is the preferred method of communication.
My first job outside if my dad’s store was in college working for a landscape supply. I worked alongside an older deaf man that used sign language. I didn’t know sign language, but I picked up basics, like “hurry up,” “customer is a dick,” and “damn you idiot,” ha ha. I’m not sure if I accurately defined those, but I really enjoyed the job. I wish I knew more.

And, thanks everyone for the well wishes.

Get Well Soon

Yup, I lost my voice (fortunately only for 1 day) in 2007 (I think). Trouble was I was running a training course on a client site (in Bulgaria - Varna for anyone familiar with Bulgaria... ...or Dracula); getting someone else to stand in wasn't an option. Fortunately for me the original schedule was to finish on Thursday (lost my voice on Wednesday morning) and the client was OK with rescheduling in the hope I could use Friday to make up for the lost sessions from Wednesday. Fortunately I could. But it is a very weird experience talking to a class of trainees one moment and then not being able to speak the next!

Wifey lost hers for a week or so back in 2016; we were in Brazil at the time and the concierge to our apartment block found it hilarious; he kept saying he wished his wife would lose hers. (Fortunately Mrs T saw the funny side of it.)

Purely a home remedy idea, but I have found that sometimes breathing warmer more humid air helps a sore throat or chest congestion, achieved by either breathing under the edge of the sheet or under one layer of bandana or t-shirt. It shouldn't be claustrophobic, just enough to keep the air a little warmer and more humid than the air out in the room. Hey, I got through four years in the Navy without ever going to sick call. The runt of the litter, but stubborn. I didn't get seasick either.

Thanks Tom. Mrs Cosmic has been holding my head over boiling concoctions and making me gargle the foulest of things, probably some Appalachia voodoo. The doc has me on steroids and cough medicines that make feel drunk. But, I have really enjoyed kicking back in the sauna and just sweating this out. I’m sure one or a combination of some these will get my vocal chords back in tune.
Most likely your suggestion is probably the best one. Thanks again.

@cosmicfolklore - get well soon.

Steroids is the next best thing to speed !
And a lot of strong cough suppressants are opiate-based.
I already have a hard time sleeping, and the steroids had me up all last night. I ovoid opiate based drugs. I don't ever even use pain meds. My doc knows this. Redheads have a sensitivity to it, besides we usually don't feel pain like mere mortals anyways, ha ha. But, Robotussin DM has been my friend.
THANK YOU!!

Update... like most of you are going, "who cares," but I was ordered to bed.
I was doing better, but then... Bleeding from my vocal chords. Yeh, I probably shouldn't have even been smoking one bowl a day. So, now I am ordered to bed. No talking. Can't talk. Ears are hurting. I'm just a mess, ha ha.
Anyways, crap! No pipes!! Sucks!! I'll just lay here and shake, ha ha. And, it's not easy for me to be still, much less lay down. Crap!!

Anyways, I just wanted to vent that. Quietly. on a keyboard. Crap.

My wife sometimes makes me hot lemonade and honey to heat up my chest. It's not obnoxious and seems to do some good. She grew up in rural northeast Missouri where they didn't take to much doctoring, so has some home remedies she likes. Tea bags and ice for burns and such. Eucalyptus cough drops will sometimes quiet a cough while you are trying to get to sleep.

Hope you're up&running very soon. But until then take care.
I'm a believer in warm (very) salt water gargles.
