About 2 or 3 months ago, on a whim, I decided to send my Zippo back to have some parts repaired. I had read that Zippo warranties the lighter lifetime so I thought I'd give it a shot.

I just received it back today via UPS. I'm really staggered actually. I don't know whether the whole inside was replaced or what, but it's a brand new lighter now. New wick, flint, cotton, everything.

Pleasantly surprised to say the least!

Both times I've used it, my experience with Zippo service was great. (That's twice over 40 years, and both incidents were due to my borderline-abuse of the lighters.)

Both times they replaced the insert with a brand new one even though that wasn't necessary. My understanding is that you can include a note asking them to leave the original in place if you want to keep it. But when I got my lighters back they were basically brand new.

my favorite one is someone I knew found a rusty zippo in a stream and sent it to them and they sent it back to him fixed. He sent them a letter that was more look at how cool it is that your product held up that long. The letter explained that the lighter has a lifetime transferable warranty.
I think part of their business model is built on people having their one lighter for decades and that making people want one themselves.

The hinge is always the first thing to go for me. I sent my brass armor zipper in twice to have the hinge repaired over an 8 year period. My new daily zippo needs a new hinge now too.

Great service.

Also, I heard if it's having internal issues, they just replace the insert. They don't repair that part.

Zippo is one of the great American companies. They have never refused repair on my Zippos. I have no regret ever buying a Zippo or two or three..

What I like about this warranty is that even in sunny ol New Zealand I can send it to the local distributor and they will repair/replace for me.

Most other warranties I have come across would require me to ship to the states (or are not valid as I didn’t purchase the item in USA)
