Ok folks , I'm from the UK and we rarely see KB&B pipes over here. I recently bought this KB&B Cabinet pipe for £4 with the aim of restoration. I'm struggling to date this one and find a set series. From what I can see it's a poker but with the stem set way high. Any help would be really appreciated. As always thank you guys.20230311_153102.jpg20230311_153107.jpg20230311_153120.jpg20230311_153120.jpg20230311_153126.jpg20230311_153132.jpg

Yes, that is an awkward design. I wonder if the airway is drilled at a slant to get the airway further toward the bottom of the bowl. Otherwise, I don't see how it would draw properly after the first third of a bowl. This design is rarely seen.

Based on the stylized clover and ampersand I’d sary it’s old, late teens early 20’s maybe.
Cool thanks for your reply, any indication or pointers with the clover and ampersand I'm a complete newbie with Kaywoodie/ kB&b stuff. What's the difference between eras. Thanks for the reply. 😊

The Lower Forty of Hill Country
In his book titled Rare Smoke - The Ultimate Guide to Pipe Collecting, author Richard Carleton Hacker wrote this, in part, regarding KB&B pipes, "From 1929 to 1933 the pipe featured stamped block letters on the shank..."

What is the stamping above the logo? What I can read seems to spell, "...OABINET."

Cabinet pipes are on the master list on the Kaywoodie tapatalk forum. I don’t think they were sure of the date when they added it. It’s old. That’s for sure.

The series names was “Cabinet”. It was a version of ”The Lyon Pipe” which was also known as the Dawes pipe after Charles Dawes, 30th VP of the USA. The Lyon pipe had a removable bowl, Cabinet didn’t . You can see a smooth version of the Cabinet on the Kaufman Brothers and Bondy page on Pipedia.org. WDC produced one under the name “Campaign” since Dawes smoked them on the campaign trail.

Like any other industry, pipe manufacturers eagerly dogpiled on the latest trend to boost sales. While KB&B had the advantage of Dawes’ name in promoting the Lyon that didn’t stop WDC and SM Frank from introducing similar models as quickly as they could. And like all such fads demand faded when the next hot thing came along.

Here’s a KB&B ad to the trade touting the Lyon:

And here’s the SM Frank knockoff (the “M.D.”);
