Thanks all! The mouthpiece has a Dunhill quality to it. I'll compare them when they get here. I didn't know Ashton ever made Astley's. I heard Upshall and Ferndown did.
Bill Taylor made pipes for Astley's, and they got first pick of Bill's production. He would take the pipes to the London store and let them pick out the ones they wanted, and then would take the pipes back to the factory and stamp the shanks and imprint the A logo on them, and then take the pipes back to Astley's. He said Astley's was his best customer since they paid in cash on delivery.
Got it today and it's a beautiful pipe with one minor issue - it's a 9mm filter stem and that wasn't in the ad. So I ordered a dummy filter for it. Excited to see it has an acrylic stem, unusual for an English pipe.
