Our featured interview on tonight's Pipes Magazine Radio Show is with Jon David Cole. JD is the Owner/Tobacconist at The Country Squire in Jackson, MS, and he is the former co-host of the podcast, Country Squire Radio, which ended their 10-year run earlier this year. There was a big event to close out the show that we’ll hear about, as well as JD’s first experience as a vendor at the recent Chicago pipe show. At the top of the show, we’ll have an extended “Pipe parts” discussion with two user submitted questions – one about aging tobaccos and if there’s any difference between topped and non-topped tobaccos related to aging, and the other asking for suggestions on how to slow one’s pipe puffing cadence.

The show airs every Tuesday at 8:00pm eastern US time, and can be found at PipesMagazine.com and all podcast apps.

I’ve ordered from The Country Squire quite a few times and was lucky enough to get JD in the phone one time. He was more than a gentleman and his staff is also excellent, the tobaccos they create are pretty darn tasty too. Can’t say enough good things about the place, hope to visit it one day!

Your advice to take the pipe out of your mouth and pause when smoking Virginias and VaPers is particularly excellent. With the more subtle blends it’s all too easy to get distracted and end up chooching away on the path to tongue bite and an unpleasant smoke. Ask me how I know.

It was great to hear from Jon David again. While his blend “Fine, Then!” has its origins in a running joke, it’s actually very deftly balanced and quite enjoyable. The perique seems to play the role of integrating and enhancing the other tobaccos and topping, rather than being a flavor unto itself. Good stuff.

Thanks for another great show.

With all this talk of the Country Squire. Have you ever heard the song County Squire by Tyler Childers? It’s a great song. Could be one to use on the show.
