Well, at last, the Bentons that used to be featured as Iwan Ries Exclusives house pipes have finally disappeared from the web site, so the page is blank. Apparently the source finally dried up, stopped production or directed it elsewhere. Now I am assuming, since the Exclusives category is still listed, Iwan Ries seems to be looking for another source of its house pipes. I hope they find a good one. In tribute to the old Benton series, I am proud I bought three over the years, a billiard, a Canadian and a compact Oom Paul, all great smokers and handsome but extremely reasonable pipes. I've been grumbling about the page for months, since all the pipes were listed as out of stock, and now finally they've cleared the slate. At least there is movement on this front.

This one isn't an IRC house brand; it was made for

Tinder Box by Armellini, but it qualifies as a compact Oom Paul.

If you spin the stem around it would fit in a shirt pocket, no problem.

About the Iwan Ries compact Oom Paul (sorry I don't do photos) it is about 4 3/4 inches, not extremely doubled back, but enough to qualify as an Oom Paul, a Group 2 bowl, and because not severely doubled, will pass a pipe cleaner. If it has fills, they don't show. A little dappling on the finish after years of use. A great pocket pipe. The stain is light brown, and the stem/bit vulcanite. When I started watching Iwan Ries web site about six years ago, I think these went for $35 and never increased much or any. Good solid Grecian briar, I think it is. These are nice pipes, and if you spot them on ebay, etc., they ought to go for a few bucks.

sallow, that's a beaut. Hang onto it now. There may not be any more just like it, or stamped Benton (or Iwan Ries) at all.
