I just got my P&C order a bunch of bulk flakes. SG 1792, PS Bullseye, Bobs Chocolate, etc. its been sitting on my porch for a few hours in the cold weather here in Iowa. should I jar it now or wait for it to adjust to room temperature? Im not sure if it woul effect aging with anythpe of moisture issues.
Thanks,
Jason

Not sure if it would make any difference, but if it was me I would let it warm up to room temp. And for the record, the only stupid part of that question was asking if it was a stupid question. There are so many variables in pipe smoking that no question is stupid or unnecessary. Ask away bro.

I have zero scientific reason but letting it come to room temperature before jarring instinctively feels right. Maybe someone can scientifically back up that gut reaction...maybe not.

If you jar it up.

I would go with room temperature, and a hot jar.

That will help to seal the jar as it cools down.

However; if you jar it up cold, it's liable to collect some condensation and the seal won't be as reliable, and could spoil.

That is just a guess... I have no evidence to back up that assertion.

I agree with letting it sit for a little while before jarring it up. Also there are no stupid questions. There are only stupid people who get angry with they believe are stupid questions!

That's pretty much my logic. I know one thing. Letting it warm up over night to room temp before jarring sure as hell couldn't hurt anything.

I like Lawrence's reasoning on this one. And the bit of physics with the hot jar appeals to me.

Since the jarred tobacco will be at room temperature for the rest of its life, best to start out at room temperature.

A enjoyable bowl later and everything was proper room temperature. I agree with many here it probably wouldn't hurt anything but why risk it when you can enjoy a nice bowl of something you've never tried before. I love the SG 1792! :)
