EDIT: Fixed Capitalization in Title (See Rule 9)

Hello,

4 years ago I’ve started the pipe smoking journey but it didn’t end up very well.

I never managed to get used to it and I quit.

Today I restarted thinking about it and decided to give it a another go.

I would love to try four different types of tobacco, extremely different. I believe testing extremely different tobaccos could help me to get closer from knowing what I like :)

If you could think of four (or more) extremely different tobacco what would they be?

Thanks

I don’t know anywhere near enough to be able to answer this question. But, I don’t know if I could make another list without Orlik’s Dark Strong Kentucky on it.

Apart from that, I’ve found a ton of value to using www.tobaccoreviews.com lately. You can use the advanced search feature to pick out several styles of pipe tobacco and then just pick the top rated from each style.

That’s probably the approach I’d take if I was in your shoes.

Four (ok really five) completely different but easily obtainable blends for the novice....

1. Sir Walter Raleigh regular (red pouch)
2. Orlik Golden Slice -or- Peter Stokkebye Luxury Navy Flake
3. Peterson (formerly Dunhill) My Mixture 965
4. GL Pease Haddo's Delight
5. MacBaren's Old Dark Fired

A Balkan, a straight VA, a strong burley, and a goopy aro should pretty much define flavor landscape for you.
For desert, throw in a fiery perique.

Full Virginia Flake - Straight Virgina, "The Essence of Pure Flavor" ?
Dunhill/Peterson Standard Mixture - Latakia blend.
American Delight - Aromatic.
Cabbies Mixture - Virgina with perique, peppery.

I'm fairly new to pipesmoking myself but I believe the four above would be a decent basis to start from and good representatives of their respective category. Then explore broader from there, or at least that's what I have done. Next/fifth category for me will be burley blends and sixth Lakelands.

Best of luck on your tobacco journey I am sure it will be enjoyable!
