I know this is flogging a dead horse and has been around the barn a hundred times but I just had to mention it. Again.
I received my order today. Twenty ounces.
As you can see from the picture of the duty receipt; it cost me $393.21
It is what it is. I wasn’t going to accept it but I was out of the four tobaccos that are in my rotation because I feared that it may be unreachable with the deteriorating world conditions.
Anyway, it is what it is.

For the love of God, you do enjoy encouraging tyranny, don't you?

Oh my! I wonder if it's more worthwhile to take a trip down to the States and buy your supply there instead. Not sure whether the border control will have issue with it on your way back if it's within a reasonable quantity.

We get BS taxes in the US as well, $10 for US customs and $850 for more US customs according to our 2 main shipping companies UPS and DHL. A dozen phone calls most always brings the total import fee to $100. Hopefully you can make a few dozen calls and get this reduced? Crazy this!
wow. I swear with UPS I've had the opposite happen. Basically wondering when they are going to charge the import taxes.

Yeah, i would declare it and still have to pay. If you notice, it is the provincial sales tax that is the worst. Alberta has the most expensive PST that is charged on incoming tobacco products of all the other provinces.
anyway, enough said.

So re-enter through a different province. Or ship it to a friend in the province with the lowest taxes, and have them transship it to you.

Are you intent on paying the taxes/duties on a moral basis, or because you don't want to get sent to Canuck Tobacco Reform School for ten years? I hear they force inmates to watch virginal Cuban teenage girls slowly rolling saliva-dampened 10x60 cigars on their inner thighs.

Yeah, my last two orders got nailed like this. I've pretty much given up on ordering from online retailers now. Cigar Cheif is about the cheapest place to order from in Canada and they are not cheap by any means. Just slightly lower than the brick and mortar stores. I just watch the buy/sell forums and occasionally find a deal here or there. Even though the prices are super high, they are only going to go up. I might try the whole leaf route out of curiosity mainly and see how that goes.

Well it could have been worse. Suppose you discovered and developed enormous, completely unsuspected, oil deposits in Alberta, and the Canadian government reneged on its development agreement with you and basically nationalized those fields, costing you billions. That happened to my uncle. This ain't so bad.

Besides, you get healthcare. They gotta pay for it somehow.

Some might say that Canada's harsh tobacco policies come from their government paying for healthcare.

Do you actually pay for your peoples healthcare if you don't pay for your own defense?

I realize they are giving the canadians free healthcare... The question is who is the "they" who is paying for these excessive social programs?
