Don't judge, I just like what I do it gives me enjoyment...enough it is just me...let me be..
Yeah, but you also post about it on a hobby forum!

I would posit that the majority of pipe smokers are totally unaware of the existence of pipe forums and would be astounded that there are those like us who engage with other pipe smokers.
And post photos of our pipes and what we are smoking 😱

I was shocked to find like minded people on PC Link message boards in 1990 or so.....AOL before it was AOL. It was cars for me back then. It was amazing to have the knowledge of 100s of car guys at your fingertips....in real time. :)
By the early 2000s I was deep into AOL cigar and pipe boards. By the time actual forums really became user friendly, I was into forums about cars, firearms, cigars, pipes, veterinary medicine, food, travel.....
I live in a rural area. Finding these groups opened a new world.
Ive met many great people. Including a guy who eventually moved his family 1000+ miles to live here on land I sold him. :)

I started smoking pipes in the early ‘70s prior to PCs and the internet.
It was hard, working things out for myself, until I met a knowledgeable tobacconist who took the time to teach me about the different tobaccos and blends.

Fast forward to 2018 when I took up the pipe again.
The Pipesmagazine Forums, along with other internet resources, meeting other like-minded souls have been a gamechanger.

I like it that despite our differences of opinions, likes & dislikes we are still a community united by our love of pipes and tobacco.

I technically started smoking a pipe in 1987 when I was 17. The only one I had was my friends step dad Dave. He smoked Winchester cigarettes snd had about 7 pipes. The only tobacco I ever saw him smoke was Captain Black. He showed me how to smoke a pipe. He said, "tobacco in there, light there, and suck there". I smoked a few pipes a week until I found cigars in 2001 or so. Then I was smoking 2-5 cigars a day until I went to Afghanistan for a few years. Surprisingly a lot of soldiers smoked cigars and we were sent a LOT of cigars from America, England, Australia.....
Came home in 2009 for good and continued cigars until a guy on a cigar forum turned me on to premium pipe tobacco and it became easy to buy online. That was about 2012ish.
From then it went from 50-50 cigars and pipes, to today were it's 90-10 pipes over cigars.

I have never thought about it in very great detail. I like smoking a pipe and I have always done so. Sometimes I smoke a lot and sometimes I can go for days without smoking. I have always smoked the same style of pipe and the same British types of tobacco.
