Too many of my button down shirts I wear to work have holes burned in them. It got so bad that I began taking my shirt off to smoke in my white undershirt.
Only one - but that led to an Urgent Care Visit, second and third degree burns, and a huge scar tissue in my shoulders.
I was smoking late night, I was in a semi sleepy state, the kitchen match slipped from my hands while striking and landed on my shoulders. It took me 4-5 seconds to realize my shirt is burning, and then somehow my cotton t-shirt caught fire.
I got it off within 45 seconds, but it was enough to burn me severely.

I used to be a welder, I know how that feels. Our work shirts had pockets and were notorious for catching slag and catching fire. I'm lucky that I didn't have to have nipple grafting surgery.
Not as many now that I've stopped smoking kreteks ?

How do you burn your shirt with a pipe?
Only ones with synthetic material. They melt pretty quick. Cotton and wool do better.
Almost every shirt of mine has tiny pinholes from stray ash while driving. They’re small and no one has ever said anything to me about them.
Now my shirts I wear at my workbench is a different matter. All liquids in metal smithing will eat a hole in anything fabric. So most of them are like swiss cheese.
Shirts have an evolution for me. New, I wear out as my nice clothes. Then after a few months of pinhole driving ash, they become house shirts till they become faded. Then they are workbench/farming shirts, till they become shop rags.

This may come as a shock to some but my story involves alcohol. And a loosely packed pipe. And trying to talk while clenching.
I have leather lined pockets on my tweed jackets which tends to cut down 'pocket burn out'. Shirts and shorts seem to take the brunt of my accidents.
Amateurs. Amateurs. When I was in the Navy, both my friend and I occasionally put hot pipes in our polyester pants pockets thinking they were out. WRONG.
I’ve got a few shirts and shorts where some sparks have made pinholes.
None of my shirts have burn holes, but I do have a pair of shorts made out of that quick-drying synthetic material that have a couple of tiny pinhead sized burn holes. Not sure how I did it.
I've been pretty good about not burning my clothes throughout the years. However, 90 percent of my jeans and shorts have black smudge stains on them from using them to clean my tamper finger.
Mine too along with a fair number of my books.
Mostly by snorting in derision at something seen, read or heard, but occasionally from careless tamping or an errant breeze.
Or smoking PS-41 cube cut burley. That shit is specifically engineered to burn holes in your clothing. True fact.
I've smoked quite a bit of that one but outside of it rising when lighting I've never had it come out of the pipe.
