How Long is the Shortest Pipe You Regularly Smoke?

NO, Not all.
Hot smokes is the result of how hard/fast you puff.
Not due to length, or lack, of the stem

In the last 15 years or so i have moved from smoking mainly large pipes such as Ardors to a point now where i predominantly now favor pipes which are 5" and shorter. It started with a love for Castello 10s, radice billiards of like substance and has migrated to more pipes than i really need. My smallest pipe that i smoke is a Dunhill 3903 shell billiard coming in at 3.35". I have an Eltang poker and a Sara Eltang devil anse, 4 or five peterson shorts and a couple of Musico pipes which are shorter in length. In most cases, the pipe is short but the bowl is a more standard size.

5.00" is my optimal length, but i do regularly smoke a savinelli la corta (in my profile pic) and it's 4.250" long. great smoker. I am a clencher and I also would rather not have some long thing hanging out of my face.

The two on the right are Radices' and yes the one on the far right is a June Bug. The pipe on the left is a Scottie Piersel with a juma stem.

I have never had a problem getting smoke up my nose or in my eyes with short pipes, nose warmers as they are sometimes called.

My favorites include my MM & C&D, and MM and Dagner collaborations, though I have some other short briar pipes. They clench nicely and have ample bowls. Packed with flake/coin/plug/rope cuts they give a fine long smoke indeed.

The C&D version with a tomato red stem is right at 5", and the Dagner poker is 4.5".

Of course, some bent pipes measure in as equally short, though the shank and stem are longer but just don't extend further from the front of the bowl to the bit. You have to take that into account. A short bent pipe airway is often somewhat longer than a short straight pipe airway. That wrinkle is probably often observed by pipe smokers but is seldom mentioned.

I won a beautiful Cominetto Hawkbill briar pipe in a limerick contest for military veterans here on Forums, with an arched bent stem, that measures out at just under 4.5", an excellent pipe, compact with a nice broad deep chamber. I have been the beneficiary of an abundance of pipes and tobacco generosity on this site.

Also, I have not noticed any particular heat in the smoke of shorter pipes. It might be measurable, I don't know, but it doesn't affect me with more bite or any discomfort.
