Wife loves this show, just sit by mumbling...some I like and think they are good investments in and maybe live in ,if I felt like moving but the men or boyfriend always look they are on something or are so dumb that they have no opinion. I also think the women are on something to

Some interest in House Hunters International. Thing I've taken for watching the show when it's focusing on European locations is how much smaller housing space is there compared to the US for the money.

Always felt that shows like that really ruined the whole experience, and greatly contributed to the housing bubble (the last one too, but to a greater degree this one). At this point in time, wifey and I have absolutely no interest in renting an overpriced, depreciating liability from a bank...especially because most of 'em have been gutted of their vintage charm and Home Depot-ized to the Nth degree! I'm so sick of seeing those ugly, grey plastic pergo floors. It's a residence for cryin' out loud, not the Old Navy store! 😩

Both the remodel and house hunting shows can be captivating but the results , the cost and the time frames involved are so unrealistic. Especially the remodel shows- they redo an entire house for what it would realistically cost just to do the kitchen and then stage the remodel with all new furniture that is not factored into the cost.
I agree with @sablebrush52 , The first couple of iterations of This Old House were a high water mark for this genre.

As @sablebrush52 said, the newer shows are not real. If you pay close enough attention, which I don't, you will notice a few things.
There are youtube videos pointing this all out.
Many of the ACTORS on these shows, you will see on other shows.
You may see the husband on House Hunters on Survivor as the "lifelong bachelor" guy.
Many of these shows are completely scripted and not real at all.
I was very disappointed to learn that American Pickers was a complete fraud. Most of the items are planted by the production crew. The property owners are paid. The "knock and ask" is completely staged and planned ahead of time.
I saw an interview with Rick Harrison from "Pawn Stars". When asked if any of the items brought in are plants, he replied, "we are making TV", and left it at that.
The show "Storage Wars" was blown up as being 100% fake by a disgruntled ex actor. When the producers fought back, the guy (Dave) showed proof!
A friend of my wifes was on "Naked And Afraid" five years ago. Guess what?......it's fake.
Bear Grilles was outed for staying at hotels, and having food and water provided during his "week in the wilderness" shows. Don't even try looking into any Gordon Ramsey production! Even game shows are staged to a point. There are contestants who have been on several shows. There is one lady who has been on 6-7 shows....The Price Is Right, Let's Make a Deal, Wheel of Fortune...... They pick from a pool of people known to be good, exciting players.
But, there are a few shows that are 100% real. Cops was real.
"Survivor Man" is 100% real. Les Stroud is a stand up guy.
Absolutely do not look into any of this if you want to enjoy any of these shows. :)

Don't know anything about survivor man. But cops is heavily editorialized which it kind of has to be to an extent. Which is probably the biggest mark against reality t.v. even if it's all genuine things that happen some group of people still has to cobble it into entertaining television and maintain access. It wouldn't be hard to film someone all day and make them look how you want them to look. And even if you're trying to be totally straight and nakedly honest there are still going to be missing pieces.
Enjoy the genre if you want but don't think it's not entertainment and will ever tell the whole story.

Oh im well aware of how it works.
Of course they dont just follow cops around in real time. Ive worked with thousands of cops from many cities and states with my work.
Most of their days are boring.
The show "COPS" strings together exciting incidents from many agencies and many days in each episode. My point is that it is not scripted at all. They are real cops, not actors....on real calls, with real bad guys.
Les Stroud...Survivorman, is a very well known survivorlist and adventure racer. He has taught survival techniques in Northern Canada before his show.
The "Survivorman" show is 100% Les. No cameraman, no crew, no assistance. He gets dropped off in very desolate bush all over the world, and spends a week getting out. He has a select limited gear on these outings. Being a very experienced adventure race guy, hes very good at keeping moving in harsh conditions, with limited supplies. He's the real deal....unlike Bear Grilles and all the other "survivalist" shows.
He's had to be rescued a couple times, but has hundreds of successful extractions. His show isn't as exciting as some, but it's 100% real and that is exciting to many. It's a very popular show.
