Hey guys...and gals, as my wife has picked up the obsession as well, after seeing how much I enjoy my smoke now. So although she's a particularly different shade of bird, women and pipes do apparently get together every once in awhile. We like va/per,and aromatic sweet backys, the sweeter the better, ( to a point, I didn't like how overbearing the "Two Friends, Celtic mist," was, it was like breathing in perfume. However I really want some blends that have some SERIOUS straight flavors, honey, apple, bourbon, and rum, flavors I've bought all sorts of tins and bulk backys, but the closest I've come to a nice va/per sweet, is Stokkebye twist flake... Which by the way is a "blow your mind," backy, which currently shares 1st place with " Salty Dog," another well rounded backy. I'm only really into flake, and plug backys, and plan to be making my own plug blends by the end of next summer, so any tips or ideas on how to flavor my backy, or any good flake/plug you may recommend, dieing to get my hands on some hoggarth rope plug, but missed my shot, any1 got any leads on that?

You can stick a full shotglass of pretty much any liquor/liqueur in a sealed Tupperware with some tobacco, let it sit for a week, and the aroma will be decently infused into the leaf. Presumably just due to surface area this would work better for flake than for a plug.

At least I assume so, it worked fine for Byzantium with Creme de Menthe.

@NorthW°°dsPipe®

There are Gawith Rope blends still around. :)

Get this for the Mrs., if she likes lemon, and herbal floral tea, and tea like flavors. Grousemoor is really good. :)

No perique in that one unless you're referring to Luxury Bullseye Flake. Luxury Twist flake is a coconut topped straight Virginia. Salty Dogs is a Virginia/Perique topped with rum though.
Yes, I know it's a straight Virginia, I was just listing it as one of my favorite backys. U guys are a godsend, I'm really enjoying having a community, with such a wealth of knowledge. Is it coconut!? I was saying it was banana! I'm a newbie, being 34, was always a cigarette smoker (just not knowing any better I guess) but now I could never go back, I love this way of living

You might like to try C&D Repose if you're looking for a good rum pipe tobacco. The other rum tobacco I've been trying lately is G.L. Pease's Windjammer.

While there are many who don't like it, I would suggest Rattray's Exotic Passion (formerly known as Exotic Orange). I usually buy a 100g tin once a year when I can find it in stock. It doesn't say that it is topped with honey but I always get comments about its aroma smelling like honeyed oranges.

Some other decent honey topped/cased tobaccos I've smoked are:
The Country Squire White Rose
The Country squire Summer Breeze
Robert McConnell Ripe Honeydew
Davidoff Danish Mixture
K&K Meistermischung No. 11

Hey thanks alot, I'll def try all of'em, by next year I hope to be pressing my own tobacco, and making my own blends, as well as hand making my own pipes, this is something I've become passionate about, and can't see my life without tobacco

There have always been a few Forums members who shared their pipe smoking with their spouses. One couple shared the habit for decades.

In another case, a woman pipe smoker joined and posted an unending series of primo artisan pipes she bought week after week, and then posted a picture of her fiancé, and since then, we haven't heard from her that I know of.

I like GLP Barbary Coast, which is cube cut burley, with Virginia and Perique as condiments, and brandy as a flavoring. I'm a burley smoker first, then other non-aromatics, and then some aromatics around the edges.

Sir Walter Raleigh Aromatic is burley based, with Virginia as a condiment, flavored with three liqueurs, pretty nuanced for a tub blend.

I'm most intoplugs and flakes, I'll go with a ribbon, but only if it's from somewhere grand, and if the flavor/ tobacco is something I just can't refuse trying an oz of, but so far, I'm always dissatisfied, but enjoy cascadias vertical limit, lots of burley, but very well rounded, no cigar breath. I'm mainly a sweet Virginia smoker, but love burley, Cavendish, Turkish, Kentucky, and perique as well, Havent gotten my head around the balkens yet.

He mentioned Overbearing, so Exotic Passion might not be a good choice... hmm

Keep an eye out for Sakura, or here on the forum, this is a top notch Aro!

Rum, Windjammer was mentioned, also get Wilke’s 515, Basil Rathbone smoked this. There are two, the original, this is what Rasil smoked, and with Extra Rum.

Also for rum Wilke’s Rum Cake.

For real tabacc give KBV Mr. Christian’s Raven Eye Flake a try.

If you are into Burley, Uhle’s Blend 00 is considered one of the best. They also have sweet Aros.

L.J. Peretti should be added to the radar.

When you can find them, since you mentioned Flakes.

Samuel Gawith - Full Virginia Flake
Samuel Gawith - St. James Flake
Samuel Gawith - Sam’s Flake
Solani - 633
Solani - Aged Burley Flake
John Aylesbury - Sir John’s Flake
Wessex - Brigade Series Campaign (Dark Flake)
Dan Tobacco - Hamborger Veermaster
Former’s - Cross Grain Flake
Mac Baren - Navy Flake

Watch City’s blends are highly regarded.

If you and your honey like honey toppings, keep your eyes open for C&D's (hopefully annual) limited release of Sun Bear. The honey is small batch and adds an elegant finish to the excellent Virginias and orientals beneath.
