I inherited a Meerschaum pipe from my father. I know nothing about the pipe. I’m looking for help on two items.

First, there are no markings on the pipe. Can anyone ID any info about it?

Second, the stem, I believe is acrylic and is shot. It has holes at the end, top and bottom from teeth I assume. The airway is stained heavily and shows thru. And the end has a chip missing.

It screws ON to the stummel. I search the net and it seems stems either press in (tenon) or screw INTO the stummel. Can anyone help direct me toward a possible replacement stem?

Thanks for any help.

It’s probably Turkish, no maker will likely be identifiable. The stem is not acrylic, it’s either amber, Amberol, or Bakelite. Rub it till it gets warm and smell it. Bakelite will smell like formaldehyde, amber/amberol like pine pitch.

The tenon is bone, pretty common on most meerschaums made up into the 1980’s.

Repairing bone tenon amber stemmed pipes is tricky, it should really be done by someone who knows what they’re doing, has the proper tools, and is familiar with older pipes.

By Tenon, I assume you're referring to the threaded part sticking out of the stummel. That's actually in fine shape. The stem has no tenon, as its threaded to screw onto the stummel.
Thanks for the reply.

That looks like double pitch screw tenon, it’s likely got one thread pitch/diameter in the pipe shank and a smaller one in the stem. If it’s a standard thread on the stem end it’s not a huge deal to re stem it. If it’s an esoteric thread it much more difficult. You could have it fitted with a modern threaded /push type nylon meer tenon.
