Izmir is one of the most famous places for meer carving in Turkey, I would imagine it is a single block, and it will smoke like a charm. Nice looking pipe too ...

Nice shape, Turkish block.

not sure how much you know about meers but remove and insert the stem by twisting clockwise. Counterclockwise is going to unscrew the tenon.
If those little plastic fittings in the stem go bad or are bad (some of the older ones are a weird hard plastic) they can be had off eBay real cheap.

have fun meers are entertaining.

Probably not a carver; this manufacturer would likely have had several carvers. The most famous of those in the early days was Hayim Pinhas. I'd wager this is from the early 1970s, and "black meerschaum" is most definitely a misspelling of "block," which it is. It'll probably color very well.
