Help Dating Unsmoked Charatan Pipe

Hello everyone. I have recently purchased a very nice unsmoked Charatan’s Make pipe off eBay. I don’t have it in my possession yet, but I am wondering if anyone has any idea of when it was manufactured. The seller said he believes it to be a Dunhill produced Charatan because of the presence of the DC stamp. However other sources I have read state that the DC stamp has existed since the early 60’s. It seems according to some articles I’ve read it is possible this pipe is from the 1961 - 1965 era. That would be incredible, but also seems unlikely. What do you guys think?

Dunhill had nothing to do with creating the double comfort bit. You pipe has a Lane stamp on it. @kenbarnes would be the best person to help you with dating.

Hello Fran,
I think your pipe (nice tan relief apple, btw.) was made after 1965 and before 1980. The DC-stem was introduced in Nov. 1964. The sh☆☆☆y Dunhill takeover was in spring 1976. Before 1980 because - if I recall @kenbarnes explanations in another thread correctly - Dunnhil started to pre-carbonise the tobacco chambers in 1980.Your bowl displays pure 'virgin wood'. Another hint is the CP-logo on the stem, which Dunhill altered as shown in the picture below. In this Logo th C and the P are not interwinded. (The C dosn't enter the P). The encircled £ (Lane-logo) was still on the pipes for the US market probably until Dunhill sold Charatan to Russell in 1988. I hope that @kenbarnes (the charatan expert of the forum) will chime in and can narow the timeline when your pipe was made.
