My grandma's family was from Ireland and she was the liveliest most outspoken talker in the family, and she and I were pretty close. As a grade schooler, I'd visit her for a week or two in the summer, and she's arrange outings for us most days I was there, to watch the postal helicopter land or to go watch cows being milked or explore shops with antique farm gear. At night we'd watch Groucho Marx and later Jack Parr on TV.

In Dublin, I asked a riverside coffee stand vender if there were boat rides on the Liffey, and he patiently took me over to the rail above the river and pointed out a grocery trolley submerged mid-river only half submerged. He was kind and soft-spoken about it, but I've been amused with my naiveté ever since.

Now THAT is Irish wit!
