Welcome from the state formerly known to be nearly as cold as yours. Don’t let the spice take credit for your genius 😜

Hello everyone,

A big and enthusiastic greeting from a 56-year-old from the frozen lands of Minnesota. I'm new to the pipe (have a couple of Meerschaum cobs and a Savinelli) but have a bit more experience with cigars. I'm still learning the art of smoking without fricasseeing my tongue, but the wonderful thing is that practice makes perfect, and I'm loving the practice :)

I'm still trying to find local pipe smokers and locations (I'm two hours southwest of Minneapolis) but now have the perfect excuse for a weekend jaunt to the Cities to indulge in cigar lounges for both the cigar and pipe recreation and atmosphere. Lately, I've started to smoke a bowl or two while working in the basement (remote IT). Interestingly, I seem to function better with a pipe -- not sure if it's the nicotine inducing a mentat reaction (ala Dune) or just the lessening of anxiety that smoking provides, but I really do seem to delve deeper into the code with a bit of tobacco in the air.

I'm glad to be here and looking to learn. Thanks for the wonderful resource.

Welcome from Atlanta! mykmuh wrote: "Interestingly, I seem to function better with a pipe" - Thing is, tobacco isn't bad for you and this used to be well known. In fact most cells in your body have nicotine receptors! For a reason! Tomatoes, eggplants, potatoes all have nicotine in them (trace amounts, but still fascinating!). But when you take tobacco and add things like Benzene. Beryllium, Butadiene and the like to make cigarettes, it unsurprisingly becomes toxic. If you look back at older studies (pre-80s) that separate pipe and cigarette smoking, it was clear that smoking a pipe prolongs life, even over non-smokers...
